A South Indian bong and a neurodivergent professional. When I’m not chasing logic, I’m looking for calm—painfully often found in things that raise my cholesterol.
Bengali, mid-30s, gay, beef-eating Brahmin, Big 4 consultant are some easy brackets to put me in. I’m originally from Chandannagar, a former French colony on the suburbs of Calcutta. I’ve lived across India for reasons related to studies, work, family, and sanity.
Hello, I’m Shubhankar Chakravorty. I come from a background in consultancy, preceded by stints in PR and communications, and research and journalism before that. Since 2012, I’ve worked with The New Indian Express as an editor in Chennai; as a correspondent with Reuters News in Bengaluru; as an analyst with The Economist Intelligence Unit in Gurugram; and as a consultant with The PRactice in New Delhi. Currently, I produce training programs and change content for the modern workforce. My professional journey has been one of constant self discovery—though I’m still no good at composing a near decent dating profile.
I completed my undergraduate studies in English Literature, Economics, and Political Science in Calcutta. I then went to grad school in Bengaluru for Multimedia Journalism and Developmental Journalism. Growing up on the autism spectrum and as a sexual minority, I read endlessly about random things. One outcome was an intense, if short-lived, ambition to become an Egyptologist.
So now that you’re here, allow me to plug whatever this is. This platform is meant to showcase some of my past professional writing alongside personal musing—short pieces on current affairs, reviews, observations, and the like. I’m here to share the controlled chaos in my mind with you. There will also be pictures of food, pups, and travels—anything that sits at the intersection of laziness and interesting.
Chronic reader, information-hungry, social recluse, dog lover, gym rat, foodie, traveler, opinionated—these are some other ways to describe me. Journeys, ranging from arguments to agreements, have taught me to befriend my well-intentioned demons. What you won’t find here is a relentless rant about everything wrong with the world. What you will find is an account of interesting conflicts.
If I’ve managed to hold your interest so far, I hope you’ll follow this space. Cheers!
